KURT ALBERT NEUENFELDT

Slipped away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on November 30, 2021 in North Vancouver.

Kurt was born on January 12, 1950 in Port Washington, Wisconsin, USA to Lillian Elizabeth (nee Rausch) and Albert Robert Neuenfeldt. Kurt will live forever in the hearts of his wife Janet Mah, sons Kieran and Kam and nephew Eric. He will be lovingly remembered by his sisters Alice and Donna and brother Karl, and sorely missed by a wide circle of friends and colleagues.

A member of the Law Society of BC for some 25 years, Kurt served

for 10 years as a Member of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, 8 years as a Member of the BC Human Rights Tribunal and 4 years as an Adjudicator with the Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat. His

choice to serve in these positions demonstrate his dedication not just to the principles of justice and equality but to the cause of empowering the underprivileged and righting the wrongs of history. Numerous testimonials from his colleagues describe the admiration and respect Kurt earned within his profession for his utmost discretion and unassailable integrity.

Kurt was also known for his broad intellectual interests, his love of travel, nature and the night sky, and his acerbic wit. His adventures included a trip to the legendary Woodstock concert, trekking in Guatemala and a 5-month expedition through Africa with Janet. For more than a decade, an annual ‘Wisdom Retreat’ to Tofino was a folly that reinforced the bonds with his closest friends. A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring. Please support the BC Cancer Foundation with gifts in the memory of Kurt.
