JANET MAY DATTELS ORTVED

April 24, 1950 January 25, 2023

Jan (72) died peacefully and surrounded by love on the Palliative Care Unit at Princess Margaret Hospital on January 25, 2023, from lung cancer. To no one’s surprise, Jan showed unparalleled bravery and strength right until the very end.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce “Duke” McDougall; her daughters, Kyla (Josh Stacy) and Dayne (Steeve Doubt); granddaughters, Lucy and Neve and Emilia and Phoebe, who loved their “Dutchie”. Loving sister of Michael, Stephen, Frances (deceased), Peter and Tim.

Jan shared her ferocious love of life with everyone she met, lighting up every room with her contagious laugh and vibrant spirit. With good humour and sincere curiosity, she was quick to connect, always maintaining her relationships with intense loyalty. She sought to nourish the best in people, cultivating opportunities for people to thrive. She was happiest surrounded by family, friends, and the endless natural beauty of Pointe Au Baril.

Jan loved art and embodied a unique and creative style in everything she did. With her drive and natural talent, she founded Emblem, which became one of Canada’s leading floral design businesses, bringing beauty to so many in Toronto and abroad. Her boundless energy and joy will be missed by all, especially her girlies and her Regazz. A celebration of Jan’s remarkable life will be held in the spring. Donations in her name may be made to The Royal Conservatory of Music. Memories and photos can be shared at https:// everloved. com/ l i fe- of/ j anetdattels-ortved/.
