CORLIN W. BORDEAUX

It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of our stepdad, Corlin W. Bordeaux, at age 93, on Sunday, May 21, 2023, in White Rock, BC. He left us on his own terms, on the date and at the time of his choosing. Corlin was predeceased by our mum, his beloved wife, Elizabeth. He is survived by Stuart Gilray (Jazmine Lefebvre), Barb Wiebe (Tom), Ann Gilray (Markus Samer) and Janet Gilray (Rick Letestu); and granddaughters, Vanessa, Paige Hanna (Ryan), Jillian Wiebe and Dallas Gilray. He is also survived by his brother, Jules Van Roosbroeck (Louise Frolek). Also by sons, Raymond and Robert; and his sister, Maria; and extended family in Belgium. Corlin was born in Antwerp, Belgium on April 30, 1930. He lived his formative years in Belgium, but moved to Canada in 1956, landing in Montreal, Quebec. By 1958 he had moved to BC. In 1977, he met our mum and they were married on September 20, 1980. They were married for 38 happy years prior to her death. The day of their wedding, his brother even reminded him, ”she has four children,” he said he knew and married her anyway.

He worked at Triumf Research Institute as the Chief Financial Officer where he made many lifelong friends. He retired in 1995 and took on a business role with Uniglobe Travel for several years. During the years at Uniglobe, he and mum traveled extensively. Among their journeys were trips to Egypt, safari in South Africa, multiple cruises and many trips to places in Europe and the United Kingdom, which usually included visiting family in Belgium. Corlin did a lot of volunteer work over the years. He was a member of the board of Surrey Memorial Hospital in the early 1990’s. He and mum were active members of White Rock Arts Council, White Rock Concerts and TALK (Third Age Learning at Kwantlen). In later years Corlin enjoyed quiet time spent at the farm they called Applegarth.

We were so, so lucky when Corlin became our bonus dad. We were loved and loved him in return. He gave so much of himself to all of us. We will miss him terribly. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Peace Arch Hospital Foundation. No service by request.
