Passed away suddenly in Buffalo, New York, May 18, 2023. Beloved mother to Jona (Jeff), James (Jenell), Jessica (Marc) and Emily (Mike). Much loved wife of the late Rev. Hugh Pratt. Dear grandmother to Lindsay, Nicole, Elise, James, Celia, Oliver, Wesley, Mariel, Maxwell, Ferguson, Sienna and Rosalie. Daughter of the late Gordon Porter and Caroline McLaren Porter. Cherished sister of Sheila (Smith), Ian and the late Helen Porter. Dearly loved aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Lifelong friends with fellow students from Queen’s University. Anne was a devoted minister, teacher, puppeteer, writer and humanitarian. The daughter of a United Church minister, Anne’s early life took her to many places around Ontario. She attended Milton Elementary School and Oakwood Collegiate. After studies at Queen’s, Anne and her growing family lived in places including Switzerland, Maine and New Mexico, before settling in upstate New York. Anne is well known in Buffalo, New York, for starting Paradise House to provide a safe home to women in recovery and serving there for 26 years. Funeral services and visitation to honour Anne’s life and memory will take place at True Bethel Baptist Church, 907 E Ferry St., Buffalo, New York on Tuesday, May 30, starting at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations can be made to the Buffalo City Mission (buffalocitymission.org)
