ANNE SHEERES

Born in Bournemouth, England only daughter to Gerald and Doreen. Loving mother to Michael and Janine (Eric); devoted wife to Timothy (predeceased); and doting grandmother to Claire and Adam. Passed away peacefully in her 93rd year. Anne lived the first part of her life at Henley-onThames, where she was mostly raised by Meenie, her governess, to be a proper English girl. The two shared a lifelong, loving bond lasting many decades. Anne attended The Abbey girls boarding school in Redding. In her teens, Anne joined the local tennis club in Whitstable, Kent, where she met her “secret admirer” who wrote her love letters. In 1953, Timothy asked Anne two whopping questions. “Will you marry me?” and “Will you come to Canada?” - all in the same breath! They left England with $50 and a job waiting for Dad at Clarkson Gordon in Calgary. In 1968, Tim’s work with Norcen Energy Resources saw a transfer to Toronto, where they eventually settled in a log home in Hogg’s Hollow. Anne and Tim enjoyed a wonderful social life, with Anne being very active in bridge and the North York Newcomers Association. They hosted many parties at home, including raucous New Years Eve parties with games and laughter, and balloons dropping at the stroke of midnight. Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding were enjoyed weekly on Sundays. In later years, Mum and Dad travelled extensively through Tim’s work with the CNIB and World Blind Union, as well as spending a month each year soaking up the Caribbean sunshine. Anne continued to see her lifelong girlfriends: Inez, Shirley ( from Calgary),Tina and others here in Toronto. In her later years, Mum slowly drifted into Alzheimer’s but still managed to find humour in everyday events, often telling her family how much she loved them, and playing her two favourite tunes on the piano into her 90s. A final Mother’s Day was enjoyed by Michael, Janine and Anne on Whatsapp. Funeral to be held at St. John’s York Mills Anglican Church, June 8, at 11 a.m. Contributions appreciated to the CNIB or the Alzheimer’s Society.
